ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY

As a family-owned business that has manufactured hardwood products since 1873, Seneca Millwork is committed to maintaining a thoughtful and sustainable relationship with the environment in which we function and that we rely upon to support our continuing operations.

Our hardwood products are FloorScore® certified—meaning healthier, cleaner indoor air quality. Our products contribute to multiple LEED, Green Globes and WELL building rating system credits, with low-emitting certifications, waste reuse practices, and continuous improvement in operations’ sustainability. Seneca’s flooring products have been independently certified by SCS to comply with the VOC emissions criteria of the California Section 01350 Program.

FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) Certification ensures that wood products come from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources; and provide environmental, social and economic benefits.  Seneca has the capacity to source FSC® lumber for our customers’ flooring projects.  Our company’s FSC® certification is evaluated and audited by Preferred by Nature.

Seneca’s top management has, via ISO 14001 Certification, committed to establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an environmental management system (EMS) that lowers negative impacts, prevents pollution, fulfills our compliance obligations, enhances our environmental performance, and meets the expectations of interested parties. All Seneca employees, visitors and contractors are expected to act in an ethical and responsible manner, which is consistent with the EMS and help to achieve our environmental objectives and goals.

Social and economic sustainability depend upon our local community, our employees and our customers. Seneca, as a part of Roppe Holding Company, is a member of the Sustainability Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC). This organization gives guidance to its members on environmental, social and economic sustainability. Together with our business “ecosystem”, we are investigating our responsibilities for social sustainability including justice and equity, diversity and inclusivity.
